I can’t believe we are here. My beautiful, witty, helpful and thoughtful baby is now 5 years old and headed to kindergarten. She’s ready to take on reading, complete art projects, run at recess with her new friends and come home to tell me all about it. As her proud Mommy, I can tell you it is incredibly bittersweet. I’m so proud. I’m so happy for her—we all are.

I can’t be there for every single moment (trust me, I want to be) but I CAN make sure she’s ready to take on the day. Reasonable and healthy food options are a big deal in our home. We refer to our oldest as “The Main Eater” – she just loves all sorts of different flavors and food combinations. She has even told us more than once that broccoli is by far her favorite! I try new recipes out on her and she’s been one of my biggest supporters.

Food has always resonated with me in its ability to make you feel at home, safe and comforted. I want my sweet girl to be as healthy and comfortable as she can be in her new adventure. This is why packing a healthy lunch with plenty of options is so important. Thanks to Barlean’s, I can make flavorful, easy snacks for my daughter to ensure she is getting the nutrition she needs! You no longer have to choose between convenience and health – lunches for you and your children can be both easy and delicious!

Check out my daughter’s lunch below on her 1st day of Kindergarten!

First up — Organic vanilla yogurt topped with Barlean’s Ultra High Potency Omega Swirl Fish Oil in Passion Pineapple, peaches, & Barlean’s Forti-Flax® (freshly milled flaxseeds). My daughter loves peaches, and Omega Swirl works wonderfully as a yogurt topper!

I never thought I would be that mom who cuts the crusts off. I know she won’t eat them; she’s always leaving the remnants on her plate. So now I make adjustments – and I’m the mom who cuts the crusts off. This is a Curried Egg Salad Sandwich made up with a bit of fresh dill, nutritional yeast, mayo, salt, pepper, curry, 2 hardboiled eggs, & finely chopped celery. I served this alongside cherry tomatoes.

I believe in moderation. This means my kids do get some sweets in their diet. I love these Bento styled containers - they really help with portion size. I can allot just a few all-natural gummy bears without feeling like I’m sending my kid into sugar overload. Carrots are always a kid-friendly snack, and my daughters enjoy them on their own.

I also wrote her a little love note because I realize this is a new experience for her. I’m a fan of encouragement and I always want her to feel supported.
