Being a mother is awesome. I never imagined in my lifetime that I would have two human beings that I adore more than anyone or anything in this world. While there isn’t a single day I’m not grateful for my kids, life can be incredibly hectic sometimes.
I’m always imagining up ways to make easy snacks that not only nourish my children, but also provide my loves with important Omega-3s for their little growing bodies. Barlean’s products are wonderful for this. They are so easy to incorporate in foods.
Below are some easy snacks that your kiddos may enjoy, too -- I know mine did! You don’t have to be amazing in the kitchen to make anything I’ve outlined below!
1. Barlean’s Forti-Flax + Nut Butter + Apple Slices
Peanut butter is a hot commodity in my house. My kids get extra excited if I mix honey or maple syrup in there, too. My oldest even helped me mix up the peanut butter. Get the kids involved. Maybe even let them pick the plate. :)
Directions: Simply slice your favorite kind of apple in rounds, hollowing out the middle. Combine about 1 Tbsp of Barlean’s Forti-Flax with your favorite nut butter. Spread your nut butter flaxseed mixture onto your apple slice and POOF, you have a yummy snack!
My kids love fruit. They are like little fruit bats. It’s pretty adorable. My oldest said, “Mom, this is so good, it’s probably the best fruit salad I’ve ever had.” Large declaration from my sweet pea, but I don’t let it go to my head -- it will be something different tomorrow!
3. Non-Dairy Yogurt + Barlean's Omega Swirl + Fruit
I’m not a yogurt person. However, my kids are totally little yogurt people. Neither of them can handle much dairy, though, so we as a family stay away from it. My kids would eat truckloads of yogurt if I let them, but a small bowl every now and then is a lovely treat for them. Top with your favorite fruit and Barlean’s High Potency Citrus Sorbet (or other favorite Barlean’s Omega Swirl), and watch your kids gobble this up.
Directions: Spoon some yogurt of choice into a bowl. Top with Barlean’s Omega Swirl of your choice and a bit of fruit.
4. Gluten-Free Cereal + Barlean's Flax-Chia-Coconut Raw Energy + Unsweetened Almond Milk
I know what you are thinking. This. Is. Not. Creative. Sometimes you wake up and say to yourself, "I don’t feel like making breakfast." As long as my kids are eating and shoving Barlean’s Flax-Chia-Coconut into their faces, I win as a parent. It’s not always pancakes and elaborate scrambles – sometimes it’s just cereal. Either way, I still get lots of kisses and a big “thank you, Mommy!” at the end of it. That’s all that really matters.
Directions: Combine your favorite cereal (I opt for Gluten-Free) with your favorite milk (I opt for unsweetened almond milk) and top it off with Barlean’s Flax-Chia-Coconut Raw Energy. Omega-3s with fiber and yummy goodness in one bowl!
