The easiest DIY Valentine's gift idea using coconut oil.

Heart Tray of lip balms.jpg

We love an easy DIY project with minimal ingredients that won’t keep you in the kitchen for hours. One of our wonderful employees made these adorable Valentine’s gifts with her daughter. It’s the perfect little present to share with someone special next week. Plus, her daughter said they smell, “just like Hawaii!”

2 Tbsp Barlean’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

1 Tbsp beeswax pellets (We used Beeworks because it’s organic and comes in tiny pellets. Here are a couple options:,

5 drops of lemon essential oil (or your favorite scent)

Heart-shaped containers (Here are a couple options:,

Optional: ½ tsp apricot oil (Here are a couple options:,

Optional: To add a colored tint, cut a small slice from an old lipstick and add in after the beeswax!

Note: We won't receive anything from any of these links, we just thought it'd be helpful!)

Prepare adorable heart shaped containers before creating the lip balm (you can find these online or in craft stores!). You will want to have everything set up so once your mixture is ready, you can pour it immediately. Place the containers on a cutting board that is covered in wax paper for easy cleanup if anything spilled.

Slowly heat the coconut oil over low heat. Many online recipes call for using the microwave to create homemade lip balm. We slowly heated the oil in a small pan over the stove. Be careful not to get the mixture too hot depending on what type of lip balm container you are using.

After a few minutes – when the coconut oil is heated through – slowly add the beeswax pellets to the warmed oil, still over low heat. Use a whisk to incorporate the beeswax into the coconut oil. Remove from heat and carefully transfer the mixture to a glass measuring cup with a pour spout. Whisk in apricot oil and the essential oil of your preference. Pour mixture into prepared containers. This recipe begins to set fairly quickly, so you will want to get the product into the containers carefully, but quickly.

Ta-da – your homemade lip balm is ready to go!
